Montevallo Artwalk - Art Stalk

Montevallo will host the next Artwalk, it’s Halloween-inspired “Art Stalk,” on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 1 to 6 p.m. The eclectic art offers families the opportunity to join for fun and shopping in the afternoon, but still have time for traditional Halloween fun after this event. Artwalk is presented by the Montevallo Arts Council, the City of Montevallo and the University of Montevallo. To date, more than 80 artists and vendors are registered to participate.

Montevallo Artwalk serves an initiative to support downtown businesses and draw the university into the community while highlighting both the local and university art communities. After a brief sojourn to the Promenade last year due to construction, Art Stalk is back on Main Street where the event can feature not only local artists, makers, and craftspeople but also the brick and mortar businesses and restaurants that line Montevallo’s downtown.

Art Stalk features a diverse offering of items ranging from painting, photography, pottery, and woodworking — to clothing, accessories, jewelry, even edibles and bath and body products — all handmade by the vendor! Whether you are looking to decorate your living space, decorate yourself, or find the perfect unique gift for any occasion, Artwalk. Select artists will demonstrate their talent including a special woodcarving demonstration by Tim Tingle, known for his work in Orr Park.

“This is a great way for visitors and citizens to get to know Montevallo,” said Artwalk Coordinator Emily Gill. “In addition to our valued business community, we are rich with independent artists, makers and craftspeople, so this is an opportunity for one-stop-shopping- bringing together merchants and makers on our historic, newly renovated streetscape. Whether you are looking to decorate your living space, decorate yourself, or find the perfect unique gift for any occasion, with more than 80 curated vendors, you can find it at Art Stalk.”

Live music also adds to the atmosphere, which will feature Jim Quakenbush from 4 to 6 p.m. next to Owl’s Cove Park.

As the Halloween-inspired event, all those in attendance are encouraged to dress up. A costume contest, managed by the Montevallo Junior City Council, will be held from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Preference will be given to originality and self-created costumes. Prizes include gift certificates to be spent at an artist’s booth at Artwalk and free passes to Central Alabama Paintball Park. Other activities for children include face painting and crafts.

Wrapping up the evening, the Carmichael Library and The Alabamian will host a free campus Ghost Walk from 6 to 8 p.m. Learn about the history of the ghosts who haunt Montevallo and view the door with the flaming face.

Tours will begin at Palmer Hall, with ghostly guides leading guests through the spine-tingling haunted history of Palmer Hall, Reynolds Hall, Main Hall, King House and King Cemetery. Following the Ghost Walk, join the library’s Fall Festival for more activities. For more information, contact Carmichael Library at 205-665-6100.

At the seven-year anniversary, the Montevallo Artwalk planning committee hopes this event will continue to attract both community members and out-of-town visitors to the historic downtown area.

Art Stalk would not be possible without sponsors Visibil.IT, Blue Phrog Art Gallery, Falcon Art Supply, Montevallo Chamber of Commerce, Central Alabama Paintball Park and The Original Alabaster Newsletter. Please support these fine businesses and SHOP LOCAL!
